Getting Around Istanbul by Ferries

Ferries (Sehir Hatlari) are the easiest, cheapest and the most pleasant way to travel up, down and across the Bosphorus. There are ten main ferry docks in Istanbul and with the ferries, you are able to travel from Europe to Asia and back. There are also sea-bus routes runs from Istanbul to main areas within the city limits and the cities around the Marmara Sea. There are two inner-city sea-bus lines and four intercity sea-bus lines.

Buses are also the cheapest and the most economical means of public transport in the city, though they are usually overcrowded and it’s not easy to find out which one you should catch. Using metro and tram is quicker and have a wide network and provide easy access to many of the major points both in the European and Asian sides. There are about five metro lines M1 to M5 and four Tram lines T1 to T4 facilitating public mobility in the city.

Like every other city in the world, you can use Taxis. In Istanbul Taxi’s are yellow and have taxi signs on the roof and can be found almost anywhere in the streets. Though Taxis are usually the expensive option to travel around but in Istanbul taxi’s are fairly cheap compared to European levels.
